Match Report
Crusaders v Adlington Raiders
The Crusaders needed a win this week but could only manage a draw in a very even contest. The Raiders began brightly pinning the Crusaders in their own half for the first few minutes. There was then some good end-to-end play but with the advantage of the slope, the Raiders took the lead after 12 minutes. The Raiders continued to press and two minutes later their left winger was given 3 chances to score and succeeded with a fine, looping effort from the edge of the box. This galvanised the Crusaders into action, Paul galloped up the left and his shot-come cross was turned in by Matthew at the far post. The Raiders continued to have the better of the half and it took some sterling defensive work by Joseph to keep them at bay.
The second half carried on as the first but now the Crusaders had the advantage of playing downhill and it showed, Matthew was dominant in midfield and his passing was quick and accurate. The equaliser came following a goal-mouth scramble, L J was first to the ball in the area and the shot just crossed the line. Both teams pressed for the winner and it was only the brilliance of both keepers that kept the score down. Jack did superbly to turn a goal-bound shot onto the bar but he was outdone by Tom whose tremendous dive to the left kept out Matthew's thunderous shot.
Unable to split them, Martin gave the Man-of-the Match to both Joseph and Matthew.
Final score: Crusaders 2-2 Adlington Raiders
Man of the Match: Joseph and Matthew.
