Match Report
Bolton County Cougars v Crusaders
Another game against the Cougars in which “The Cat” earned his school yard bragging rights again. Fortunately most of the Cougars' attempts were either off-target or straight at Jack's body, but he did make 3 very good saves which was the difference between winning and losing. The Crusaders got off to a good start with Tom latching onto Sam's excellent through-ball to score in the 4th minute. Tom returned the compliment in the eighth minute for Sam to skip through a static Cougars' defence and easily beat the keeper. The Cougars could have pulled one back just before half time when Joseph tripped an attacker just inside the box. Jack got his fingertips to the resulting free kick and the ball hit the bar bounced onto the line and was hastily cleared.
The Crusaders seemed to start the second half thinking the game was won and were punished inside 5 minutes when a poor clearance was struck beyond Jack's despairing dive. Earlier the referee had incurred the wrath of the home fans when a second shot was declared not to have fully crossed the line, this time Jack clinging on at the far post. Sam made the game effectively safe in the 37th minute but the remaining 20 odd minutes were not without alarm. Lewis B and Joseph spoiled otherwise excellent performances with occasional heart-stopping lapses and Sam went AWOL from the midfield a few too many times but with Matthew covering almost every blade of grass on the pitch and Tom leading the line well the Crusaders held on for the win.
Final score: Bolton County Cougars 1-3 Crusaders
Man of the Match: Jack P.
