Match Report
Another dramatic recovery by the Crusaders saw them put the title in their own hands.
With the wind in their favour the visitors took the lead when Will Owen scored from a clearance following a Paul Speed corner. Curtis Fletcher scored a second from a tight angle but Atherton hit back within a minute to leave it 2-1 at half time.
Atherton equalised from a harsh penalty soon after half time and just as the match entered the final 10 minutes took the lead fro a shot from the edge of the box. With time running out the Crusaders pressed for a goal and were rewarded when Curtis was tripped in the area and a penalty was given. Matthew Kay took on the captain's responsibility and slotted the spot kick home with just 3 minutes left.
Curtis showed what had been missing on Tuesday and Matthew Kay showed how much of a loss he'd been over the last month but Sam Grady won the man-of-the-match award with a perfect performance on the right with just the correct balance of attack and defence.
Final score: Atherton Town 3- 3 Crusaders.
