Match Report
Not a classic; with the pitch, weather and referee marring a game that the Crusaders never got a foothold in.
Indeed the Crusaders struggled to come up with a solution to counteract Leigh's speedy number 6 who got away with being miles offside to score the first, but was a thorn in the defence's side throughout the game. Leigh's second was legitimate but their third came courtesy of a blatant shove on Chris King allowing a free header from a corner. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors who were outfought in midfield for much of the first half; the best chance coming when Seth lobbed against the bar. Had that gone in there might have been a fight back on but Leigh scored again to go in at the break 4 up.
With the gusty wind in their favour the Crusaders performed better in the second half but were twice cut apart by simple through balls to give the number 6 his hat trick. Bill cracked in a late consolation but Leigh restored the 6 goal margin in the last minute.
With most of the team having an inconsistent game, it was the player who played best throughout the 80 minutes that justified the man of the match award. Chris King and Cal McCulloch earned honorable mentions and both Nathan Collins and Mat Withers produced fine saves but it was Callum Gore, whose all action display would have won us the match had in been replicated by the rest of the team, who deserved it most.
Final score Leigh Genesis Tigers 7-1 Crusaders.
