Match Report
Losing 2 goals and Lewis in the first 3 minutes was not the start we wanted. The pitch at All Saints School is very small and it took us too long to decide where the defensive line should form up. The Bullets had a plan and every ball over the top caused us problems. Maybe we would have fared better had Lewis not been felled by a poor tackle from behind which resulted in a bad ankle sprain which has ended his season early.
Both Bullets' wide-men possessed impressive ability and we struggled to contain them and with the slope in their favour in the first half they rattled in 7 goals. Paul earned some luck when he put the goalkeeper under pressure and forced a mistake which allowed him to walk the ball in. Samuel also benefited from a little luck when his shot took a little deflection to wrong-foot the keeper for our second but the Bullets were ruthless in front of goal and had the game sewn up after 35 minutes.
With the slope in our favour we improved in the second half but were wasteful in front of goal or we could have made the Bullets nervous. Matthew was outstanding in midfield and deserved more luck when the keeper defied his previous form with a fine save from his penalty. He redeemed himself soon after turning in Paul's free kick at the near-post. That was our only goal of the half and the Bullets managed 3, the last one taking a ridiculously high bounce over Clayton's head!
There were 3 candidates for man of the match, Chris for a determined performance after losing his partner early on, Paul who was always a threat on the left and Matthew who clinched it by tirelessly chasing a lost cause with his usual enthusiasm and skill.
Final Score:-MG Junior Bullets 10-3 Crusaders.
