Match Report
Both teams produced an entertaining game in which the attacks dominated, despite being battered by torrential rain for large periods.
New regular keeper Clayton quickly regained his confidence after an early slip and showed fine positioning and good handling even though the ball quickly took on all the character of a bar of soap! Sam grabbed an early goal which was soon cancelled out by Rovers. Callum then almost immediately opened his account with a powerful shot the keeper couldn't hold on to after being put in by Matthew. Rovers began to exert more pressure on the Crusaders' goal but some resolute defending held them out until they scored in the 32nd minute to make it 2-2 at half time.
In the second half Jack and Matthew managed to gain some control in the midfield area and Bill and Paul used the wings well. Paul made it 3-2 following a defensive blunder but then the defence went to sleep and Rovers scored 2 unanswered goals to take the lead for the first time. Sam was supporting Callum by probing and running at the defence and scored the equaliser with 20 minutes to go. The game was swinging the Crusaders' way and Matthew restored the lead before Callum went down under a challenge in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. With the size of goal and keeper this year it was an almost certainty that Matthew would score and so he did. Despite a game effort by the Rovers, the Crusaders held on till the end.
There was lots to be admired in the game particularly from the attacking players. Clayton had a good debut and Jack did well out of position in midfield. Callum showed good promise and scored his first goal, Paul, Bill and Matthew passed the ball around with confidence but the man-of-the-match was Sam who showed great energy and caused the Rovers' defence many problems.

Final Score:- Crusaders 6-4 Atherton Laburnum Rovers.
